Night is a piece that was inspired by the depression that the composer has often felt from evening to dawn. It contains four movements that each represent a different time of the night, along with a different mood and aspect to depression and anxiety. “Dusk” is a rondo that portrays the first stages of daily depression, and it goes through cycles of sadness, contentment, and stress. “Midnight” conveys the confusion associated with the time with changes to the typical binary phrasing and different pitch collections. It also features a chiming ‘clock’ as well as a familiar countermelody. “Sleep” reflects on the previous movements in a slightly distorted way, much like dreams distort daily activities. Finally, “6 a.m.” portrays the anxiety of starting a new day after waking up from peaceful sleep to “alarms.” . Extended techniques and familiar melodies (normally with a twist) give the feelings of stress and numbness throughout. Dur. 10 min
