Amenhotep’s Dance is a work for intermediate - advanced wind ensemble. This work uses the harmonic phrygian scale to differ from traditional Western scales and to depict a gathering on a hot desert night. Its use of percussion and ostinatos creates a feeling of dancing through the desert like a mirage. The texture fluctuates to portray the ebb and flow of the hot wind. However, there is a constant drive forward with the energetic bassline and syncopation. Amenhotep’s Dance is an exciting piece full of interesting rhythms and pitch collections!
